Places to improve

We would appreciate your comments, suggestions, and ideas!

New guidelines

  • Put objectives at the very beginning of each movie
    - In the 1st movie, first address what the student is going to learn, and what is cataloging job.
  • Cut congregated topic into further smaller topics, and give fuller explanation for each topic.
    - For instance, make two movies for Searching Millennium and Connexion, in stead of trying to cover two of them in one movie. This means to split Lesson 3 into two movies.
  • Make it more visual appealing and aesthetic.
Specific areas to improve
  • Visual habit: Give visual varieties when displaying images. Many users suggested to display images of steps from top to bottom or left to right, but this is not necessary, because there are also users who liked the way we are doing now. One subject (domain expert) mentions "to show the image track in different order may give more challenge for the user, and thus force them to focus what we want them to look on."
  • Voice-over mono tone in Lesson 1. Voice-over volume inconsistency in all movies.
  • Balance the use of animated text with "still" text or text box.
  • Provide supplement documents - cheat-sheet, handouts etc.
Changes to be made
  • Give more instruction on how to attach a barcode. Show a better image.
  • Give more instruction on how to write the call number on the piece:
    - Show an image of a student writing the call number on the title page verso.
    - Explain what is "title page verso".
  • Improve the display of the general procedure chart:
    - Make each step appear in different time;
    - Gray-out area of later treatment (in stead of cutting them off);
    - Say in the very beginning that "this is a whole picture and you do not have to go through details right now," so to reduce the tension of overwhelming information.
  • Give more explanation on adding an item record. Change example.
  • Consider to integrate the content of Lesson 2 (right now is an HTML file) into Lesson 3 and/or 4.
  • Change illustrations to match with the updates of local catalog website.
